MAYFIELD
BUSINESSES IN MAYFIELD
Though Mayfield is obviously derelict, that is just the station! Around and underneath Mayfield station are a number of different businesses who are quite comfortable at Mayfield.
3D SET COMPANY
3D Set Co. are a highly successful design company in one of Mayfield's 9 units on Temperance Street. They have worked with the BBC, Channels 4 and 5, Audi, MEN Arena and more big names. They create sculptures, poly logos and provide a reliable storage facility in Mayfield and also have stock hire sectors. They have been open for 15 years and benefit from Mayfield.

MAYFIELD STORAGE DISTRIBUTION
For 25 years, Mayfield Storage Distribution worked under Mayfield station as it benefitted them in many ways. These include their warehouse of 5.8 million cubic feet, 30 foot high ceilings, all on one floor and secure property/location. However,it is now an abandoned warehouse with many office items lying around, some from the 1960's, and is just an urban explorer access point. It used to be trusted by HM Customs and Excise though now stands silent like Mayfield itself.
Lastly, the interview with the owner/manager of Complete Demolition in Mayfield on the 11th April 2012 was an interesting insight on to the future of Mayfield. Seemingly, he (I am not disclosing his name) is not fighting as we are for Mayfield and is invited quite a few times to look round and assess Mayfield Station. This brought to mind thoughts that his company could be in on the demolition and clear up job. He claimed that he gets many urban explorers around his yard looking or asking for a way into Mayfield and he claims to understand the history of Mayfield and it's meaning to some people. I believe that he would be obviously compensated for the loss of his land if Whitehall got the green light and would be given a place elsewhere, this, from what I could deduce, was the reason why he is no longer concerned with the place at which his business has run for more than 30 years.
STAR AND GARTER
The Star and Garter was opened in 1803 and Manchester rumour has it that it was on a street demolished for the building of Piccadilly station and thus moved brick by brick to Fairfield Street in 1849 and finished in 1877, before the building of Mayfield. The Star and Garter does indeed look like a pub, but it was built and used as a hotel that brewed it's own beer until the 1970's. It was given a grade II listing on 20 June 1988 and has since been used as a bar venue for private parties.
Art Attack Exhibitions are similar to it's neighbour, 3D Set Co, however, this company/organisation are considered a radical urban art group who provide the more interesting and experimental conference, exhibition and media sets. They are based in Unit 6 and have been there for approximately 5 years.
